Microchipping
What is a microchip?
A microchip is a small piece of technology, a little
larger than a grain of rice, carrying a unique number
that is registered to a national database.
How does it work?
It is injected under the skin above the shoulders of
your pet using a wide needle, designed to be very sharp so as to cause minimal
discomfort. The microchip number can be read using a scanner held above the animal
- the number is used to find out the contact details of the animal’s owner so they can
be reunited. It is therefore essential than you inform the microchip company if you
change address or phone numbers.
So when considering whether to microchip your pet, remember that over 250,000 pets
go missing in the UK each year—how would you feel if your beloved pet was one of
them?
