County Vets strongly recommends neutering for pets
not being used for breeding purposes as neutering
can prevent future illness including uterine infections
(pyometra), phantom pregnancy, prostatic disease
and even certain tumours.
Cats and dogs are routinely neutered from 5-6 months
of age and rabbits from 4 months old. If you are
considering having your pet neutered, please book a FREE pre-op check with one of
our vets to ensure your pet is in good general health before undergoing an
anaesthetic. The surgery can then be booked for a mutually convenient date, usually
within a week of the pre-op check.
All neutering procedures are carried in a single day – patients are admitted first thing in
the morning and return home the same evening once they are fully awake from their
anaesthetic. Included in the cost of the procedure are any medications that your pet
may need at home and post-op checks with our nursing team to ensure the operation
site is healing well and that there are no complications.
